Community Survey

Over the next several weeks, we will be conducting a community survey. This is a follow up to our 2011 Community Survey. A randomized list of residents will get a phone call from a professional service. Questions range from how long you have lived Hastings, to your opinions on the quality of our services, tax rates, job and housing opportunities, and ideas for improvement. Your feedback is invaluable to our future strategic planning for Hastings.

Bridge Construction Update – Lane Closures Continue into Early Fall

The Bridge contractor continues to work on the concrete railing repairs on the northbound side of the Bridge.  Progress is being made, but it is taking longer than originally expected.  The lane closure will remain in place for northbound traffic across the Bridge until work is complete, which may take a few more weeks.  Once the northbound side is close to being fully complete, crews will begin to work on the southbound side of the Bridge and there will be a lane closure for that direction of traffic.  MnDOT and the Contractor expect for all railing repair work to be wrapped up in early fall.

Please check the Bridge Project Website for additional details.

Seeking Volunteers for Citywide Tree Inventory

The Parks & Recreation Department is seeking volunteers to help conduct a comprehensive citywide tree inventory.  This initiative will help us prepare for the arrival of the Emerald Ash Borer and other pests that are heading our way that could potentially cause great damage to the trees in Hastings.  Training is provided.  Please help us take care of this valuable asset.  Learn more about the EAB problem and how you can help here.  The tree inventory is going to be on Sat, 9/13 at 9am. Volunteers should meet at the Parks & Recreation office and more volunteers are needed. People can call Paul Mahoney at 480-6177 if they want to help out.

Riverfront Renaissance Project Update - 7.25.2014

At their regular meeting on July 21st, the City Council unanimously approved a resolution to adopt the Riverfront Renaissance Master Plan, which will be the primary guide for the improvements over the next several years.  The Council also authorized final engineering design work to begin on Phase 1 of the project, which includes work in the green space along the south side of 2nd Street near the railroad depot and new parking lot, along the boulevards on Ramsey and Tyler Streets north of 2nd Street, and on a renewed Veterans Memorial plaza in Levee Park near the steps that lead down to the river.  We expect to be able to begin construction on this phase of the project in late September or early October, with some of the work carrying over and resuming in the Spring of 2015.  For more information, please check out the Riverfront Renaissance project website!
