Cities Matter!
Cities Matter is a project of the League of Minnesota Cities - Minnesota's primary organization serving the city community. The Cities Matter effort is focused on helping Minnesotans learn more about the city services your taxes pay for, how to help kids understand what cities do, and ways you can get involved to make your community a better place. Public opinion surveys show that Minnesota’s 854 city governments consistently rank higher than state or federal governments in the value citizens believe they get for their tax dollars. But these surveys also show that Minnesotans don’t have a strong understanding of the services cities provide. Check it out on citiesmatter.org

Hastings Snow Emergencies
Snow Emergencies automatically go into effect in the City of Hastings when 2 or more Inches of snow has fallen at one time. When an emergency is in effect there is NO PARKING ON EITHER SIDE of the Street. Snow Emergencies remain in effect until the streets have been plowed curb-to-curb.

Winter Reminders
Snow Mobiler’s are reminded to use the Snow Mobile Corridor when traveling through town. Riders are also asked to ride ONLY on the streets, staying off of boulevards, sidewalks, bike paths, alleys, city parks and ponding basis. Remember snowmobile use within city limits is only allowed between the hours of 8am and 10pm, after that sledders must be returning home.

Sidewalks Homeowners are reminder that they are required to clear their Sidewalks within 48 hours of each snow fall. If walks are not maintained, the city may end up clearing them and fine owners for not complying.
Best Practices Program
The City of Hastings currently has a policy in place which imposes civil penalties in the case of a liquor license compliance check failure. Those guidelines were adopted in December 2000. Earlier in 2009, the Hastings City Council reviewed these guidelines and adopted some ordinance changes relating to these compliance checks. One piece of the changes approved by the City Council is the establishment of a Best Practice Business Program with the goal to team up with local liquor establishments on ways to eliminate sales of alcohol to youth. We believe that by helping licensees to avoid law violations, such as selling alcohol to underage people, will help the city as a whole to avoid the problems that come with underage drinking. It is less expensive and easier to prevent youth access to alcohol than to investigate the motor vehicle crashes, fights, and other crime that underage drinking promotes. For more information on the Best Practices Program click here.
