Register Your National Night Out Gathering Today

The Hastings Police Department is encouraging neighborhoods across Hastings to organize a National Night Out gathering on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.  National Night Out is an annual event that involves neighborhoods, businesses, and civic groups coming together with their public safety providers and local government officials to increase community connections and to heighten crime and safety awareness.

National Night Out gatherings in Hastings and surrounding communities have included events and activities such as: block parties, cookouts and potluck dinners, neighborhood recognition of a “Neighbor of the Year”, visits by police, sheriff, and fire personnel, youth activities and organized games.

The Hastings Police Department asks that anyone interested in organizing a National Night Out event register their gathering with the Hastings Police Department by calling 651-480-2350 or emailing HPD@hastingsmn.gov.  Registration helps police and fire department staff to plan a visit to your gathering.  Please plan to provide the address/location of your event and the neighborhood organizer’s name(s) and phone number(s).

Riverfront Renaissance Project 7.25.2014

At their regular meeting on July 21st, the City Council unanimously approved a resolution to adopt the Riverfront Renaissance Master Plan, which will be the primary guide for the improvements over the next several years.  The Council also authorized final engineering design work to begin on Phase 1 of the project, which includes work in the green space along the south side of 2nd Street near the railroad depot and new parking lot, along the boulevards on Ramsey and Tyler Streets north of 2nd Street, and on a renewed Veterans Memorial plaza in Levee Park near the steps that lead down to the river.  We expect to be able to begin construction on this phase of the project in late September or early October, with some of the work carrying over and resuming in the Spring of 2015.  For more information, please check out the Riverfront Renaissance project website!
