Since March, 1989 I have had the pleasure to serve as the Hastings City Administrator. As the City Administrator, I am responsible for supervising the following Departments in the City of Hastings.

While responsible for the daily operations of the City, the final authority with policy decisions, ordinance adoption and budgeting rests with the City Council. The City Council is also responsible for the hiring and firing of Department Heads, with all other employment hiring and firing the responsibility of the City Administrator.

Much of the work of a City Administrator includes coordination efforts with Department Heads, in preparation of City Council meetings, and the subsequent follow up and implementation of actions taken by the City Council at their meetings.

Serving as the City Administrator for the City of Hastings also results in significant interaction with a variety of government officials, including representatives from Independent School District #200, Dakota County, State of Minnesota, Metropolitan Council and other Cities throughout the State, and periodically the City of Prescott, Wisconsin. 

The only thing certain about being a City Administrator is that there is uncertainty! On a daily basis, one phone call, one emergency, one personnel issue….just about anything can change your day. Yet, providing quality and timely customer service to the citizens of Hastings has always been on of my primary goals as City Administrator. While the daily challenges and opportunities can periodically disrupt the routine of the day, customer service is always a priority.
