City Hall is located at 101 4th Street East. Hastings City Hall is easy to find as it is situated at the intersection of Vermillion Street (MN TH 61) and 4th Street East and is the former Dakota County Court House.
Built between 1869 and 1871, Hastings City Hall was originally Dakota County’s Courthouse and was built at a cost of $63,000. In 1912, it was renovated at which time the stunning Michelangelo style stained glass dome that you see today was installed. In 1991 the County sold this building to the City for $365,000, (County Offices are now located on Highway 55 and General Sieben Drive). After $2,500,000 in remodeling and restoration the City moved their offices to the building in December 1993. In addition to its architecture, Hastings City Hall also boasts an art collection of several hundred pieces which are open to the public during normal business hours. Formal tours of City Hall can be scheduled with the Pioneer Room Curator.
