Communications

The City of Hastings understands the value of accurate and timely communication. Not only is communication a cornerstone to the City’s adopted CORE Values, but effective interaction engages the public in continuing to make Hastings a great place to live, work and visit.

Communicating with the public is essential to the success of local government. The City of Hastings uses a variety of tools to keep the public informed of what is happening throughout the city as well as utilizing various means to gather input from citizens. Some of these include:

  • Rivertown News this robust City Newsletter is mailed to every household and business within our community with current events and seasonal reminders. We are consistently exploring ways to make this print communication more valuable for the reader. Recently, we created “Hastings Happenings”, which is a short, succinct snapshot of current tips & information.
  • The City’s website is a place where you can go to find out just about anything you need such as city ordinances, fees or city application
  • Facebook, Since February of 2010, Facebook has become a great way for the City to provide timely information and to allow community members to share their comments and connect with city officials and staff.
  • Radio Interviews, the City’s Community Relations Specialist can be heard monthly on Hastings’ local am radio station, KDWA 1460. Other City Staff are also guest regularly at the station and provide information on a number of different subjects. Previous interviews can be listened to here on the City’s website.
  • Electronic Message Board (located at highway 55 & Vermillion Street.) Is a great way to get quick updates and stay informed all while sitting at a red light!

It is the City’s intent to foster engagement, provide information, and receive feedback about what is happening in the City. We are continually looking into alternative ways to engage and communicate with the public. Please let us know if you have suggestions to enhance our communication efforts!
