City Council Committees
The City Council has nine Council Committees which are made up of three Councilmembers to review, provide direction, and discuss various issues before they are presented to the Council as a whole for a decision.
Council Committees meet on an as-needed basis. See the attached document for current committee assignments.
The Administration Committee is responsible for general City administration.
Hastings Economic Development & Redevelopment Authority
HEDRA assists with economic development, redevelopment and industrial park activities. The Authority consists of five citizen members and the two City Council Members.
The Finance Committee is responsible for operations and control of the Finance Department, provides guidance for communication with the City Council and finance Department activities, including budget, purchasing, accounting, audit, financial statement, and other aspects of the City's financial operations.
Historic Preservation Committee
The Historic Preservation Committee is responsible for providing guidance for and communications with the Heritage Preservation Commission, considering issues and making recommendations to council related historic preservation.
Joint Powers / Parks and Recreation Committee
The Joint Powers / Parks and Recreation Committee is responsible for operations and control of the Parks and Recreation Department, providing guidance for communication with the Parks and Recreation Commission, Joint Powers Board, and other parks and recreation activities and programs.
The Operations Committee is responsible for operation and control of the Public Works Department, building permits and street openings, maintenance and repair of City structures and facilities, and preparation of assessments.
The Planning Committee is responsible for providing guidance for and communications with the Planning Commission.
Public Safety Committee
The Public Safety Committee is responsible for operation and control of public safety services.
Red Rock Corridor
The Commission consists of various elected city and county leaders along the Red Rock Corridor Line between Minneapolis and Hastings. The Commission seeks to provide improved transit service which may include commuter rail options. The following City Council Members represent Hastings on the Commission.
The Tourism Committee is responsible for working with the Chamber of Commerce and other appropriate groups on tourism matters.
The Utilities Committee is responsible for policies, operations and budgeting relating to the hydroelectric plant, overseeing operation of the city's franchises, addressing solid waste and recycling and telecommunications issues that may impact the city.
