Can I have a recreational fire in my yard?

Why do so many fire apparatus respond to a minor incident?

Fire and Ambulance units are dispatched according to the information received by the 911 operator.  We prepare ourselves to deal with the worst that could happen.  In preparation for the worst case scenario, an ambulance is often dispatched as well.  In other words, we plan for the worst and down scale when appropriate.  Additionally, different fire apparatus carry special equipment and perform different tasks.

How come I see fire trucks with full lights and sirens go through a red light at intersections and then, after they go through, they turn off their lights and siren?
As explained in the previous answer, sometimes several pieces of equipment are dispatched to the same incident.  The first arriving unit may have arrived on the scene, surveyed the situation and informed the dispatcher that the situation was under control.  All other responding units may cut to a routine response or cancel.

What is a ‘Code 3’ response?
When an emergency vehicle is responding with its emergency lights and siren on.
