Storm Water Utility

On January 29, 2010, the Hastings City Council approved a Storm Water Utility fee as an alternative method of funding storm water infrastructure maintenance and improvements, required storm water system inspections and reporting, and the administration of policies relative to forthcoming mandates by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Vermillion River Watershed Joint Powers Organization (VRWJPO).  These storm water related expenses will no longer be contributed by the General Tax Levy but through the collection of fees on a Utility Bill, similar in concept to a water and sanitary sewer fee.  Depending on the billing zone, the first billing cycle for residents will be either May, June or July 2010.  An informational flier has been made available for view.
