How will Hastings change in the next 10-20 years? Where will new growth occur? What might be in store for Downtown and Vermillion Street? Future growth and redevelopment of the City is guided through the development City Plans. City staff works with the Council, appointed commissioners, citizens, and businesses to develop a vision for the future of Hastings. Summaries of our current plans have recently been presented to the Planning Commission. Video presentations of the city wide Comprehensive Plan and local plans for Downtown and Vermillion Street are available.
The Comprehensive Plan provides a vision for development of the entire city over the next 20 years. The Plan provides detail on future land use, roads, parks, and utilities. Adopted in 2010, the Comprehensive Plan is updated every ten years.
Downtown - Heart of Hastings Plan
The Heart of Hastings Plan was developed in 2003 to guide future redevelopment of Downtown Hastings and surrounding neighborhoods. The Plan includes design guidelines and concepts for the redevelopment of key downtown properties including Hudson Manufacturing, the TH 61 Bridge, and Post Office Block. Many ideas from the plan have already been implemented.
Vermillion Street Development Guidelines
Developed in 2008 the Vermillion Street Development Guidelines present a vision for redevelopment of Highway 61 from 10th Street to 33rd Street. The Plan strives for continued economic vitality of the corridor through future redevelopment at key intersections.
