Your water meter is located inside. It can be found in the basement or in a utility room where the water main enters your home. It is important to know where your water main enters your home because this is also where a main shut-off valve is located.

Hastings houses have a radio meter that is equipped with a transmitter which can be read from a vehicle.

The City of Hastings does not have meters that measure the amount of sewage that enters the sewer system from individual residences.  Therefore, your sewer rate is determined by the amount of water that comes into your house during your winter quarter billing cycle.  We do this because we do not want to include water that is used to water lawns and gardens, or water that is used to fill swimming pools, since that water never enters the sewer system.  The actual months that make up your "winter quarter" will vary based on the neighborhood you live in. If you would like to know exactly which dates are used, please contact the Finance Department-utility billing at (651) 480-2350.

Customers are billed quarterly for their water usage.  If you need to know the exact billing dates, please contact the Finance Department-Utility Billing at (651) 480-2350.

Please call (651) 480-2350 at least 48 hours before you move out. The meter reader will come to the house on the date that you specified, and take a final reading. A bill will be sent to you reflecting all water usage up to that point. There will be a one-time charge for this service. This charge will be included on your final bill. Water usage after the reading is taken will be billed to the new owner of the house Click here for final read fee

Please call (651) 480-2350 at least 48 hours before you move in. The meter reader will come to the house on the date that you specified, and take a final reading. The previous owner will be billed for the water usage up until that time, and the current owner will be billed for the remaining usage for that billing cycle.

The current owner of the property is the responsible party.  City Ordinance dictates that water and sewer charges are applied to the property.

No, unless you fill your pool during the winter quarter billing cycle (see previous question for winter quarter explanation).

Yes. Meter readings should be taken before and after each time the rink is flooded.  The documentation will need to be turned into the city so a sewer adjustment may be calculated.

This quarterly fee was established by the State of Minnesota and is collected for each connection to a municipal water utility. The state uses the funds to monitor and test drinking water quality.

There is no senior discount available.

If you have a zero consumption reading on your meter, you are only charged the base charge for water, base charge for sewer; stormwater quarterly fee, and the MN Quarterly Fee. Click here for current fees

If you have a zero consumption reading during your winter quarter because you went away for the winter, then the next quarter consumption reading is reviewed. If you used less than the current average of 15,000 gallons, then your sewer is set using the lesser amount. If you used more than the current average of 15,000, then your sewer is set at 15,000 gallons.

Payment arrangements cannot be made.  The due date stated on the bill is the 20th of the month.  Penalties are charged on unpaid balances.
