Election Judge FAQ's

Would you like to be an integral part of the election process?  You are invited to learn more about being an election judge for the 2010 election year.  To be eligible to work, individuals must be an eligible voter in Minnesota and appointed by the City Council.  You may not be an election judge if you are unable to read, write or speak the English language; or if you are the spouse, parent, child or sibling of any election judge serving in the same precinct.

Election judges are responsible for opening and closing the polls on Election Day, ensuring that election materials remain secure throughout the day, and assisting voters as needed.  A minimum of two hours of training are provided to help you become familiar with the duties of an election judge, and you are paid for your time.

College and high school students can also serve as election judges.  Students age 17 and 18 can actively participate in the electoral process by serving as a trainee judge, and those over 18 can work as election judges.  Not only does this experience look great on a resume or college application, but it’s a great way to see the democratic process in action.

To find out more information or to complete an Election Judge Interest Form, visit the City at www.ci.hastings.mn.us or call us at 651-480-2350!  Someone from the City will follow-up regarding your request.
