Eagle Scout Service Projects
Many boys that are working towards completion of the Eagle Scout Award have done service projects coordinated by the Parks & Recreation Department. These projects have benefited the community by beautifying the parks or helping the environment. Through planning, organizing work crews, and following through to a successful completion of the projects, the scout has proven his leadership ability. Some of the projects done in the past include:
- Boulevard tree planting
- Landscape and garden installations
- Ornamental fence painting
- Park bench refurbish and installation
- Noxious weed control
- Native habitat restoration
A scout needing to do a service project should have an idea of what he wants to do. Then, he can propose his plan to the City Forester, Paul Mahoney, at (651) 480-6177 or to the Parks Superintendent, Kevin Smith, at (651) 480-6178. Projects must also meet approval from the troop and district advancement authorities.
