Coming to a city near you!
Did you know walking is one of the easiest forms of physical activity? It safely works your heart and reduces stress in just minutes. Mark April 1st on your calendar – the date Simple Steps in Dakota County begins. Back by popular demand, Simple Steps is a walking program that fits your lifestyle! In 2009, nearly 1,600 people participated. Participants can win prizes simply by tracking minutes walked. Access online resources including tips and ideas for new places to walk in Dakota County. Participating is very easy – simply find a buddy to walk with. The program is free – register online anytime between March 15 and June 15 at www.dakotacounty.us (search for “Simple Steps”) or call 651-554-6100.

Wednesday Walkers
Check out the new Hastings Parks and Recreation activity, Wednesday Walkers!!! Participants will enjoy guided tours of Hastings best walking areas. Wednesday Walkers will meet for the 4 Wednesdays in April starting at 6:00pm at various starting points. Participants will have the opportunity to win prizes and learn interesting facts about local Hastings destinations while meeting new walking partners. Wednesday Walkers is FREE and is offered in cooperation with the Simple Steps program. Please contact Hastings Parks and Recreation for more information.

April 28th - Vermillion Falls Park – Old Mill Park (Meet in Vermillion Falls Shelter) - 215 21st Street East

"do the parks" is a joint campaign effort of Dakota County Public Health along with local & county recreational agencies.
The purpose of the campaign is to make citizens aware of the:
- Many city and county parks, trails, and recreational facilities in their area
- Programs available throughout Dakota County which provide a variety of opportunities to become physically active
From hiking to biking, softball to soccer, playgrounds to paddling, your local parks have something for everyone.
