Property owners are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the sidewalks abutting their property. Property owners are responsible for replacing heaved, broken, or deteriorated and unsafe walks.
While the City used to annually budget $2,500 to reimburse property owners for 50% of the cost of reconstructing the sidewalks, budget pressures have caused this program to be eliminated at present time.
Also, City Ordinances require property owners to clear all snow and ice off of sidewalks within 48 hours after snowfall has ceased. In addition, ordinances prohibit any blowing or shoveling of snow back out into the street.
