The purpose of the City's Conservation Program is to efficiently manage the use of a very precious commodity, our ground water. To encourage conservation and prevent excessive use of water, the City of Hastings has adopted a permanent odd/even sprinkling ban, which is in effect from May 15th until September 1st every year. This means if your home or business address ends in an odd number you may only water on odd numbered calendar days. Likewise, if your address ends in an even number you may sprinkle only on even numbered calendar days. A one-week exemption from the sprinkling ban may be granted for newly planted sod, grass or landscaping upon registering for the exemption with the Public Works Dept. at (651) 480-6185.
These restrictions apply only to lawn watering and not to incidental uses such as washing cars or filling pools. Failure to comply with The City of Hastings sprinkling ban violates City Ordinance, any offenders should be reported to Public Works at (651) 480-6185. The purpose of the restriction is to even out water demand and pumping during the peak summer months.
