CITY OF HASTINGS WATER CONSUMPTION
The Water Department services approximately 7,300 homes and businesses in the City, pumping about 1.03 billion gallons of water annually.
WATER REQUIRED FOR HOUSEHOLD ACTIVITIES
The following chart illustrates how much water we use, domestically, for the typical daily activities in life.

U.S. WATER USAGE
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the following is the five largest water users in the United States.

Agriculture: 142 billion gallons per day.
Water used to irrigate farm crops and for livestock, dairies, feedlots, fish farms, and other farm needs.
Power Plants: 136 billion gallons per day.
Water used during the production of energy from fossil fuels, nuclear, or geothermal sources. Most water withdrawn for power plants is used for cooling purposes.

Municipal/Public Supply: 43 billion gallons per day.
Water used mainly for street cleaning, fire fighting, municipal parks, and public swimming pools.
Industrial: 18 billion gallons per day.
Water used for cooling in factories and washing and rinsing in manufacturing processes. Some of the major water-use industries include mining, steel, paper and associated products, as well as chemicals and associated products.

Domestic and Commercial: 3 and 1 billion gallons per day respectively. Water used in households and businesses for drinking and cooking, bathing, toilet flushing, washing clothes, dishes, watering lawns, gardens, maintaining pools, and washing cars.
